Our Next Meeting

  • Topic: The Making of a Field Guide: Dragonflies of North America
  • Description: There are over 300 diverse species of dragonflies in North America. Many are intricately patterned, brightly colored, and large, which make them eye-catching and conspicuous. Despite their abundance, only recently have comprehensive dragonfly field guides become available. Join the New Jersey Butterfly Club on October 21, 2025, for a presentation from renowned dragonfly expert, illustrator, and art teacher Ed Lam as he discusses his recently published field guide "Dragonflies of North America." Released in October 2024, "Dragonflies of North America" is the most comprehensive identification guide to these fascinating insects. The book comprises nearly 1900 paintings and drawings to illustrate every North American species. In this presentation, Ed Lam will discuss the long journey to making this guide as well as introduce the audience to a variety of dragonflies and how to identify them. Audience members are invited to bring their copies of "Dragonflies of North America" for a chance to have it signed by the author.
  • Presented By: Ed Lam, author of "Dragonflies of North America"
  • Date & Time: Tuesday, October 21st (third Tuesday), Time: 6:30
  • Location: Morris County Library, 30 East Hanover Ave, Whippany, NJ and via Zoom
